Scout

Taking up residence in one of the empty shells that line Petrie Terrace is Scout, a friendly cafe serving delicious coffee and foodstuffs. New Zealand coffee roaster Coffee Supreme supplies the beans at Scout, with the coffee composed of the perfect espresso-to-milk ratio, resulting in a particularly silky and smooth drop. At breakfast, the Welsh Rarebit (aka fancy cheese toast) comes served with mushrooms, fresh rocket and red onion, while the Bircher Muesli with yoghurt, pear and chai honey will satisfy any sweet cravings. All the woodwork at Scout has been handcrafted by local artisan James Talty, who runs a furniture studio on Musgrave Road in Red Hill. Using salvaged and recycled materials, James fashioned the counter front, stools and benches for the cafe. Seating comes in the form of individual small tables, a large communal table in the second room, or patrons can pull up a spot by the wide front windows to soak up blissful some Petrie Terrace morning sun.
