Detour
Former Public executive chef Damon Amos has branched out on his own, opening casual fine-dining restaurant Detour. Situated in Logan Road’s cul-de-sac opposite 1889 Enoteca, Detour caters well for the dietary sensitive, with its menu split into omnivore and herbivore options, and a completely gluten-free kitchen – only a couple of dishes contain gluten with those glutenous elements prepared off site. While Damon’s style has certainly evolved since Public, he’s brought back many of the curious ingredients and much-loved dishes that once featured on his menu – think black ants, Hawaiian curry and fossilised carrots. The drinks list is concise but curated, featuring just six whites, six reds, three rosés, three champagnes, plus cocktails and beers. It should also be known that the restaurant is open late – for real – the kitchen closes at 11:00 pm.
