After six years of hitting our sweet spots with doughy treats at our favourite cafes around town, Alphabet Cafe opened its first bricks-and-mortar cafe in early 2018. Sister duo Zoe and Meghan Tulleners secured a space at 243 Boundary Street in West End, gradually fleshing out the space before commending brunch service in June. All wholesale operations have moved to the new kitchen (that’s right, you can still get your favourite treats at the likes of Bunker, John Mills Himself, The Single Guys and Josie North), while a coffee window dispenses Coffee Supreme and serves up Alphabet’s famous Doughies and takeaway goodies. Alphabet Cafe also boasts a huge cake cabinet and seasonal produce-driven brunch menu, which features the likes of pasture-raised bacon and white beans, free-range chorizo and fried egg sandwiches, and oat porridge with roasted rhubarb, local berries and honey. The sisters are committed to utilising sustainable and local produce, working with the likes of Food Connect and Loop Growers to source their fresh supplies, and a are in the process of converting the cafe’s backyard into a flourishing kitchen garden.
