Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary unveils a new paddock-to-plate restaurant and events space called The Homestead

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a Gold Coast institution. Originally opening as Currumbin Bird Sanctuary in 1947, the venue has been etched into childhood memories for generations. Late last month, the wildlife and conservation park welcomed what could be its most anticipated new addition in its 77-year history – The Homestead. Restaurant by day and function and events space by night, here’s everything you need to know …  

Just past the kangaroo enclosure towards Outback Springs is where you will find The Homestead, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s brand-new restaurant. Housed in a magnificent purpose-built Queenslander, the beautiful new space melds modern design with traditional homestead elements to create a one-of-a-kind venue for the Gold Coast. “We’re delighted to be opening the doors to The Homestead, the centrepiece of the most significant investment towards a new precinct in the Sanctuary’s 75-year plus history,” says Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary General Manager, Travis Couch.

For daytime guests of the Sanctuary, and National Trust (Queensland) Members, The Homestead bolsters Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s dining offering with a premium new culinary experience that shines a spotlight on native and locally sourced produce. Take a seat in the alfresco dining area, which overlooks the Outback Springs precinct, and snack on wattle-seed damper (served with whipped butter, sweet pickled baby figs with caramelised onion and bush-tomato relish). The patio platter is ideal for grazing your way through a selection of local cured meats, seasonal vegetables and homemade pickles, while the Moreton Bay squid and Mooloolaba prawn fritti has been popular among diners.

The menu is peppered with ingredients sourced from the local region, including herbs and vegetables from Currumbin Valley and seafood from the Coral Coast. “The concept of paddock-to-plate is at the forefront of our dining experience at The Homestead, to ensure our dishes are reflective of the region whilst keeping in mind our heritage and the community,” says Travis. This local philosophy also extends to the venue’s curated selection of sips, which features local spirits from Husk alongside eight tap beers.

Oh, and if you’re on the lookout for a top spot to say ‘I do’, The Homestead is also available for private functions and events. Designed in collaboration with global leisure and entertainment company Pico Play, the 841-sqm venue features versatile indoor and outdoor spaces alongside state-of-the-art audio-visual technology.

The Homestead is now open daily from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm for visitors to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
