Tasting Plate Tours brings the very best of northern New South Wales to your lips

Local foodies would be familiar with south-of-the-border establishments like Paper Daisy at Cabarita, Osteria at Casuarina and Taverna at Kingscliff. If you like a tipple, the we’d safely hedge our bets that Ink Gin would ring a few bells too. These are just some of the renowned names that are dotted along the coastal and hinterland areas of northern New South Wales, and newly launched Tasting Plate Tours is shining the light on the lot of them. If you’re keen experience the region’s best venues in one day, then you’ll want to get yourself a seat on this bus.

Most of us Gold Coast folk may have visited one or two of the southern region’s popular restaurants, cafes and distilleries over time, but we can safely assume that you’ve never done them all in one day. If you’ve longed to experience the creations of culinary masters like Ben Devlin (Paper Daisy) and Steven Snow (Fins), then this is your chance. So, Tasting Plate Tours is the brainchild of local foodie Jodie Tatchell, who created the new series of tours to showcase to some of the key farms, restaurants and distilleries throughout the Tweed and Byron Shires. There are a range of different tours on offer, and there are custom tours available to private groups too – so if you’ve got a crew of hungry friends together, then this is an ideal way to experience all of the amazing tastes in one fun and food-filled day.

The Tempted in the Tweed tour has our eye, which includes visits to Farm & Co. in Kingscliff (the local supplier to many of the restaurants and cafes across the Byron region and the Gold Coast), plus Paper Daisy in Cabarita, Fins at Salt Village, Osteria in Casuarina and Taverna on the Kingscliff esplanade. Now, this is a stellar line-up, but the exciting part is that you won’t know what meal you’ll be eating at which location until the day. So, you could be having morning tea at Osteria and lunch at Paper Daisy, or dessert at Taverna. Each tour, the order will change, which leaves the door open to experience this delicious culinary journey more than once! If you’ve done your fair share of wine tours over the years, then it’s time to jump on the distillery tour bandwagon – because Tasting Plate Tours also offers an exclusive one-day tour through two of the region’s most renowned makers of gin – Husk Distillers, which gave us Ink Gin, and Cape Byron Distillery, the home of Brookie’s gins. Check out the series of Tasting Plate Tours online, and get in touch to make a booking.
