Pavement Whispers: Palm Beach takeovers, more love from Betty’s and Oasis transformations

From whispers of beachside cafes to major facelifts and burger bars, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news on the Gold Coast, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Mr Bengal: Adam Haralampou, the brains behind popular Burleigh Heads establishments Justin Lane and Harry’s Steak Bistro & Bar, has taken over Feather and Docks cafe in Palm Beach, which recently closed its doors. Locals can rest assured that the beloved beachside caffeine hub will be back open by the end of February – this time with a new name, new look, new menu and laid-back local vibe. Works are currently underway on the fit-out of Mr Bengal, which is set to mirror Adam’s philosophy of simple food, done well. So, expect killer Supreme Roaster coffee with fresh and simple breakfasts and lunches, served seven days from 5:30 am. The new-look 80-seat cafe is expected to open on Monday February 27. We’ll keep you in the loop with all the finer details closer to the date.

Betty’s Burgers: It seems us Gold Coast folk can’t get enough of Betty – and she’s now spreading her tasty burger love to Pacific Fair! The latest venue will mark the third Betty’s Burgers location on the Gold Coast, following the burger-fuelled success of its first store in Surfers Paradise and its second at The Kitchens. Expect the same mouth-watering burger menu, cool retro vibe and seriously tasty Concretes (they’re creamy frozen custard ice-creams and if you haven’t tried them, you haven’t lived). The new Betty’s Burgers, located next door to Cowch Dessert Cocktail Bar and opposite Comuna Cantina, is expected to open by late March. Our stomachs are already (loudly) rumbling.

Alto Cucina & Bar and Mario’s Italian Restaurant: You might have noticed that much-loved Broadbeach sister restaurants, Alto Cucina and Bar and Mario’s Italian Restaurant, are now part of a pretty massive construction site. Mario’s, which is one of the Gold Coast’s longest-running Italian restaurants, is currently expanding with a new look and modern vibe, whilst sibling venue Alto will be completely reinvented into a seafood restaurant named Beachside Pavilion. Both venues are set to re-open by April, forming part of a major facelift that is underway throughout the Oasis Shopping Centre, which will see a number of new eateries added. We’ll have more details for you soon!
