Lola and the chef ups the ante on food-truck fare

Gin-cured salmon with kale, roasted beetroot, caramalised orange and walnut crumb is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of food-truck fare, but then again Lola and the chef is not your run-of-the-mill food truck.

Forget burgers and miscellaneous deep-fried goods, Lola and the chef dishes up amazingly fresh prawn cocktails, smoked salmon san choy bau (a healthier taco alternative) and Momofuku-style pork belly bun with pickled cucumber and shallots, among other fanciful creations. Specialising in weddings and private functions, Lola and the chef is the Gold Coast’s first high-end food truck and plates up restaurant quality nosh from its mobile kitchen. While some are content with simply reheating pre-prepared meals, Lola and the chef only uses fresh, locally sourced, sustainable produce so the dishes taste as good as they look.

Lola and the chef is the work of Malcolm Hope, a chef with 40-years experience (he’s the latter part of the name, Lola is the family dog, but we digress). With his weekends filled with wedding and private events, you won’t often find Malcolm parked up for a public event but if you do ever require a roving restaurant, check out Lola and the chef.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
