Escape the daily grind and book a stay at Beechmont’s luxe new country retreat Hazelwood Estate

Well, 2021 – it’s been a time. If you too feel a certain heaviness due to the general state of the world right now, you are not alone. One sure-fire way to reset and recharge is to escape the daily grind, reconnect with nature and breathe in that fresh country air. Perhaps that’s why the timing of Hazelwood Estate’s opening feels particularly pertinent. Intended to deliver the reprieve we all need right about now, the picturesque, privately-owned Wagyu and polo farm is nestled just outside of Beechmont in the Scenic Rim, approximately 40 minutes from the Gold Coast. The sprawling 75-acre property is both a place and a dream – of a simpler, slower way of life. Take a peek at this stunning new retreat …

Bordered by the world heritage-listed Lamington National Park and overlooking the lush, emerald hills of Beechmont and Binna Burra, Hazelwood Estate has been envisaged as an authentic yet luxurious country escape. There is a range of accommodation options to cater to every visitor, each designed to exude modern farmhouse elegance – complete with cosy fireplaces and private verandas to soak in the incredible vistas. The Luxury Pavilions are ideally situated to face north-west so guests can experience truly magical sunsets over the rolling hills with a glass of wine in hand. There are also 17 King Farm Cabins, which are a far cry from the kind of cabins you remember from school camp long ago. These dwellings are intended for those seeking an elevated farm stay with floor-to-ceiling glass and panoramic hinterland views. For truly special occasions, you can also exclusively book the Owners’ Residence – a fully self-contained homestead complete with an infinity pool as well as indoor and outdoor fireplaces.

At Hazelwood’s heart is the communal space called The Club House, which provides the perfect place to sprawl out in front of the fire, watch the sun sink over the polo field and, of course, enjoy some of the Scenic Rim’s freshest produce and wine at its signature The Paddock Restaurant and cocktail bar. Showcasing an authentic paddock-to-plate philosophy, the restaurant celebrates the Scenic Rim’s farming heritage and champions local products under the stewardship of lauded chef Cameron Matthews, who has been appointed as chef-in-residence. The former Spicers Group executive chef and Churchill Fellowship-award winner will deliver an original take on casual fine dining – think beef tartare, lamb cutlets with Towri fetta and macadamia cream and rustic farmer’s breakfast platters featuring black-pudding pancakes, red-onion jam and lardo. The menu is built around produce sourced from local markets as well as the estate’s own market garden and beehives, and will change seasonally. Accompanying the fare will be an expertly curated selection of sips, prepared by The Paddock Restaurant’s resident sommelier, Luis Buchan. The wine list will feature the best drops from each of Australia’s renowned wine regions as well as European variants including Barolo, Chianti and Sancerre alongside plenty of craft brews. The restaurant seats up to 40 guests in its modern farmhouse setting and is open for lunch and dinner for day visitors as well as Hazelwood Estate’s guests.

Hazelwood Estate officially opens on September 1 and is currently taking bookings for accommodation, corporate retreats and weddings.
