Right about now, shopping centres across the country tend to morph into pressure cookers of chaos with last-minute dashes to cross everyone off the list – from your great aunt Susan to the office Secret Santa. We have some news that may make your festive frenzy infinitely more enjoyable – Broadbeach’s famed pizza slinger Double Zero has opened a second restaurant along The Promenade at Robina Town Centre, just in time for pizza pit stops with a vino or two.

Nestled next door to Grill’d, Double Zero Robina has opened its doors, bringing a tantalising taste of Italy to the dining precinct. Regulars to Robina Town Centre may recognise some familiar faces, as owners Sara Artoni and Gianluca Sisi are also responsible for opening Olivia Italian Eatery takeaway deli stall on the ground floor (outside Woolworths) in March 2020. The pair’s immensely popular heat-and-eat arancini, focaccia and gnocchi to-go got them through a pretty tough year, so much so that they expanded upstairs to a restraurant space on level one. Olivia Italian Eatery is still available for private functions, however, Sara and Gianluca have turned their attention towards The Promenade precinct for their latest project, Double Zero 2.0.

If you’ve previously dined at one of Sara and Gianluca’s venues, you will know that they specialise in authentic Italian food made with love. With a relaxed and welcoming disposition and rustic charm, the chic new space is imbued with dreamy Mediterranean influences including tan leather bench-style seating, cerulean blues and marble benchtops to roll out that perfect base. A three-wheeled Piaggio Ape takes pride of place out the front showcasing a selection of sweet treats, with plans to transform it into a gelato bar. The state-of-the-art pizza oven (which has been flown in from Italy) churns out a seriously moreish range of pizzas that achieve that perfect balance between crispness and crust. Pasta lovers can twirl a fork around a classic spaghetti marinara loaded with freshly caught seafood, garlic and white wine, and for something a little heartier, tuck in to the decadent slow-cooked pork belly gnocchi tossed in a creamy four-cheese Italian sauce. There’s also a rotating daily specials menu to be tempted by, including truffle bruschetta, Nutella arancini oozing with dark chocolate sauce, and char-grilled octopus with olive tapenade. In a first for the husband-and-wife dream team, Double Zero will be slinging an Italian-style breakfast of strong coffee and pastries alongside wood-fired eggs. Rounding out Double Zero Robina’s offering is a stellar line-up of local and Italian wines, as well as classic Italian-style cocktails, spritzers and their very own craft beer, which is guaranteed to make any trip to the shops more enjoyable.
