With seven Brisbane locations under their belt, founders Todd and Marisa Clayton are finally giving southern folk a taste of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens and The Bronx – aka the ‘five boroughs’ – from their flagship Gold Coast location on Surf Parade (right next to Starbucks) in the heart of Broadbeach.

In true American style, 5 Boroughs doesn’t do things by halves. There’s a whopping 14 different burgers to choose from, including a beef-and-bacon cheeseburger with bourbon-spiked barbecue sauce, a mac’n’cheese burger stacked with a fried mac’n’cheese croquette and oozing cheese sauce, and a fried-chicken burger coated in Frank’s hot sauce with blue-cheese dressing.

Sandwich fans can get around the classic Reuben on rye, or the hot Chopped Cheese Sandwich, which is loaded with griddled beef brisket, American cheddar, crispy onions and a drizzle of cheese sauce. There’s a crisp ranch salad and selection of street tacos for something lighter, and for those not afraid to get their hands dirty, there’s also a whole kilo of hot wings doused in either barbecue or hot sauce. Don’t forget the cheese fries – they come dripping in cheese sauce and topped with smoked bacon and chives.

Thirsty? Go for an ice-cold root beer or cherry cola, or save room for a Hershey’s triple-choc thick shake. Though, if you’re after something with a little more gusto, the bar is well stocked with tap and bottled beers, wines and a menu of classic cocktails.
