$1-million donation secures prestigious Gold Coast photography award

A $1-million donation has solidified philanthropic legacy for photography at the Gold Coast City Gallery.

Thanks to a hefty $1-million donation, the Gold Coast City Gallery is set to continue hosting the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award – a highly anticipated national gong that has established itself as a highlight on the gallery’s exhibition program. The annual exhibition, now in its 13th year, showcases works from both established and budding photographers, resulting in a stunning reflection of contemporary photographic practice that examines diverse themes and approaches.

The generous donation, bestowed by Mrs Win Schubert AO, was announced on May 9 at the launch of Prizing Diversity, a riveting new book published by Thames & Hudson, which documents the history of the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award, and the two other cultural prizes for poetry and literature that the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Foundation for the Arts has supported. Prizing Diversity, the production of which was also supported by the foundation, is a unique and beautiful publication that marries text and photography in order to consider the overall character and legacy of the generous and visionary support of the foundation.
