Abstract artists descend on Gold Coast City Gallery for its latest exhibition

Art lovers and appreciators of all-things abstract, get set for plenty of hard edges and lines with the Gold Coast City Gallery’s newly launched exhibition – Hard and Fast: Abstraction, Pop, Colour Field.

The must-see exhibition is a cultural reflection of abstract art – an international movement from the late 1950s, a time where abstract expressionism, minimalism, pop and colour field painting was first exposed to Australia. With many of the pieces coming to light after being hidden away in storage for many years, the exhibition is touted as showcasing one the most significant collections of abstract art in the country.

Some of the exhibiting artists include David Aspden, Col Jordan, Michael Johnson, Richard Larter, Jon Molvig, Fred Cress, Janet Dawson, Robert Morris, Allan Mitelman, John Coburn and Sandra Leveson. Alongside the prominent names, the exhibition will also feature a number of next-generation Australian artists who have delivered responses to abstraction and pop. The Hard and Fast: Abstraction, Pop, Colour Field exhibition runs at the main gallery until May 21. Jump over here for more details.
