Burleigh welcomes Black Hops Brewery

Exciting news for beer lovers! After months of teasing Black Hops is set to open the doors to its brand new brewery on Gardenia Grove in Burleigh Heads this weekend. The new digs will showcase their signature eggnog stout alongside some exciting new additions.

Over a couple of chilled ales one day, buddies Eddie Oldfield and Dan Norris flirted with the wild idea of creating an eggnog stout however with no actual brewing experience to speak of, they enlisted the help of Michael (Govs) McGovern, who had brewed his way around the Gold Coast and surrounding areas. Unlike the vast majority of ideas conceived over a few (too many) pints, the gents actually followed through and the maiden batch of eggnog stout was created the very next weekend. When the brew turned out better than expected, the trio joined forces and created Black Hops.

Fast-forward two years and a few thousand taste-tests, the boys have just opened the doors to their shiny new brewery in Burleigh Heads. Their signature eggnog stout will be on tap in the tasting room alongside five other varieties (with room to expand) that will also include their award-winning Assault Trifle and even a coffee-flavoured concoction created in partnership with the guys from Burleigh Social. The new facility is equipped with a 2,000 litre brewery with five fermenters ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 litres, meaning they’re small enough to do small batch one-off releases as well as supply watering holes and drinking dens around Queensland. If you’re serious about your craft beer, or even if you’re not, swing by for a beer and a chat or grab a growler to go.
