Holy cannoli! You can now get DIY cannoli kits delivered to your door

Authentic ricotta-filled cannoli is right up there with some of the finest foods to come out of Sicily. It’s a truly memorable experience when you take that first bite from one end of the crunchy, tubular shell of fried pastry, quickly flipping it around to catch that slow ooze of ricotta coming out of the other end. For those of you with an undying love for traditional Sicilian cannoli (hello, that’s us) here’s a treat to sweeten your self-iso days – you can now get DIY cannoli kits delivered straight to your door.

The team from the Gold Coast’s own boutique cannoli cart, La Cannoleria, are the masterminds behind these mouth-watering new DIY cannoli kits, which are now being delivered across the city every day. La Cannoleria has operated on the coast for the past three years at markets and events, garnering a hefty local following with its traditional not-too-sweet cannoli, jammed with delicious ricotta that’s infused simply with lemon rind, vanilla and a touch of sugar – just like you’d find in the streets of Sicily. Though, with the global pandemic in full flight, there was no way for local customers get their cannoli fix. So, the team took the logical step to give the people what they want and bring their cannoli into the homes of Gold Coasters.

In the past, this humble cannoli cart often attracted circling crowds eager to watch the mesmerising piping process, so in a bid to retain a little bit of the theatrics, these kits will have you piping your own cannoli. Well, you can order them pre-piped for no extra charge, but where’s the fun in that? The DIY kits come with six crunchy pastry shells, freshly made ricotta (a choice of plain ricotta, Nutella or pistachio) ready to go in a piping bag, and toppings such as chocolate pearls, crumbled pistachio and salted caramel for you to sprinkle on the ends. Once you’re done, spend a brief moment gazing at your own piping handiwork, take a quick snap for the ‘gram, then get stuck in. You can snap up your own haul of cannoli for $30 per box – with delivery ranging from $5–$10, depending on the suburb. Check out La Cannoleria’s Instagram for ordering details.
