Rest your beer on a hand-drawn coaster from Sean Morris

The intriguing drawings of artist Sean Morris may have caught your attention at Fish Lane Studios in South Brisbane last year. The Perth-born, Melbourne-based artist and illustrator sketches curious depictions of outsider living, pop sensibilities, iconography and trash culture.

A recent zine depicted characters employing the opposite of clean living, while his comical, limited-edition Dead Meat Peace Retreat print was inspired by afternoon drunks, old weapons, house plants and fruit platters. Decidedly low brow, Sean’s works find similarities with 1950–1960s schlock film aesthetics and trailer park culture. Having exhibited and curated exhibitions for galleries around Australia and in New York, Los Angeles and London, Sean has also seen his work grace the pages of magazines and books, as well as t-shirts for UK streetwear label Addict Clothing.

His latest series of pencil drawings spruces up a bunch of found beer coasters. While we wouldn’t recommend resting your perspiring stubby on these delicate artworks, we would suggest gazing your peepers over the Dead Coast collection on Sean’s online store, where you’ll also find risograph prints and woodsman-adorned t-shirts circa 2008.
