Neon Knots & Knits at Tom Gunn, New Farm

Chunky, vibrant and certainly statement-making, the rope clutches from label Knots & Knits were born from the label’s love of knitting, both with wool and slightly more unusual materials.

The creative Brisbanite behind the label is Megan Todd, a former Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE graduate, as well as Easton Pearson employee. Following a scholarship to study at Florence’s Polimoda Institute, as well as stints at Billabong Australia, Antipodium and knitwear designer James Long, Megan gained a love of knitwear techniques.

Back home in Brisbane, the label Knots & Knits was born. Typically its creations are a colourful and textured array of knitwear, created from Australian merino wool, as well as the more bohemian materials of rope, wool, leather, suede and feathers.

The most recent addition to the label is its bag collection, including rope shoulder bags and tasselled key rings. However, the rope clutches are the key pieces, already being snapped up by the fashion-savvy. Knitted by Megan, they come in neon green, hot pink and a bashful navy blue. With a plaited natural rope wrap to tie as a fastening and a size that is large enough to carry the essentials, the bags are practical as well as adding an eye-catching addition to any outfit.
