The Weekend Series: five things we are vibing in March

A new month means four weeks of amazing food, drink, art, technology and culture to catch up on. Here are five things we loved in February that we want to share with you.

App: Foodie by LINE Corporation
Why we vibin’: The best thing about smartphones is the built in camera, which is great for capturing memories of holidays, nights out and delicious meals. Whether or not you think the current trend of Instagramming food is lame, you can’t deny that there were some times you would have given a limb to sample the same dish. Foodie is an app that helps you capture your meal in all its glory, featuring some special filters that help accentuate and emphasise the meal you are focusing on. Flick through filters such as ‘crispy’, ‘BBQ’, ‘fresh’ and ‘sweet’ then put that image online to make your friends jealous.

Television series: Love on Netflix
Why we vibin’: In the fast love age of Tinder it can be hard to find a meaningful, long-lasting relationship. The age-old story of love is one that is always relatable, and it makes for some great television. Comedic genius Judd Apatow has turned his talents to the small screen for his new show, Love. This Netflix exclusive is a down-to-earth examination of romance through the eyes of its female and male protagonists played by Gillian Jacobs and Paul Rust, respectively. Expect some touching moments and plenty of snort-inducing humour.

Book: Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl by Carrie Brownstein
Why we vibin’: Before she was making us laugh as one of the major players in the comedy series Portlandia, Carrie Brownstein was one third of the punk rock band Sleater-Kinney. Late last year Carrie released a memoir detailing her time in the band (which is playing at The Triffid this weekend) and its role as one of the preeminent bands in the riot-grrl and indie scenes in America. In the book Carrie touches on topics such as feminism, gender stereotyping in contemporary rock and roll and discovering one’s personal identity.

Podcast: Mystery Show by Gimlet Media
Why we vibin’: If you like your podcasts to be a little bit on the bizarre side, you will get a kick out of Mystery Show. The show’s host Starlee Kine solves different mysteries each episode, from the mind-boggling to the seemingly mundane. You can listen to the entire first season now, with new episodes currently in the works.

Food: Cob loaf
Why we vibin’: Let’s be real here – if you can nail a cob loaf recipe you will make lots of friends. Are you heading to a gathering and need to bring a dish? Ditch the cheese board (if only for a little while) and forget about bringing a salad – a cob loaf is a delicious and practical idea that will be gobbled up in minutes. Grab a loaf of tasty bread and fill it with some delicious spinach-artichoke dip and watch the kudos roll in.
