From news of a new location for one of Brisbane’s best pastry makers to Slipstream Brewing’s soon-to-open Sunshine Coast social club, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Croix Croissant
When Melbourne-born bakery Croix Croissant opened its first Brisbane site in Hillcrest back in January, it instantly soared to the top of our pastry rankings on the back of its range of never-before-seen creations, including its mie goreng croissants and lemon cheesecake cruffins. If you haven’t yet made the pilgrimage to sample Croix Croissant’s range, here’s some news that’ll really butter your crust – Croix Croissant is set to open the doors on a brand-new location this month, with the team putting the finishing touches on a new shopfront in Newstead. Seeking a spot that was more centralised, Croix’s owners Audi and Rizka Krisnandika have snagged a vacant cafe space at 68 Commercial Road (previously home to No. 68). The space – bigger than the couple’s current nest in Hillcrest – comes equipped with a larger kitchen, which the team will use to bolster its production capacity while also offering more dine-in space for customers. Once open, Croix Croissant Newstead will serve the same offering as its Hillcrest headquarters (including its viral double-beef burger croissant and range of vegan pastries), though plans are in the works for some special items and Newstead exclusives in the future. Croix Croissant Newstead will open to the public before the end of the month – check in soon for a peek inside.

Slipstream Brewing Social House
The Sunshine Coast’s suds scene is set to score another froth flinger next month, with celebrated Brisbane beer maker Slipstream Brewing Co. gearing up to open a new venue in Birtinya in September. Slipstream Brewing Social House is a 300-person venue that is shaping up to be a cracking local haunt for the community to enjoy, boasting a bar, fully equipped open kitchen and versatile function space. Brisbane-based designer Jumble & Stack is crafting the interior aesthetic, which will meld industrial elements with timber joinery, vibrant furniture and lush green aspects. As for the offering, Slipstream Brewing Social House will serve a menu of seasonal, Californian-inspired dishes alongside the brewery’s popular selection of beers, all of which will be brewed at its Yeerongpilly headquarters. There will also be a curated selection of Australian-made vino and spirits available for the non-beer drinkers. Keep your eyes peeled for more on Slipstream Brewing Social House next month!

Yo-Chi Gasworks Plaza
Before we know it, spring will be here and we’ll be staring down the barrel of some scorching-hot months. Thankfully, the team at Yo-Chi is taking the edge of the heat with a number of new Brisbane locations – many of which are conveniently positioned to ensure you never have to trek far for a frosty fix. Early next week, Yo-Chi will be opening a slick new dispensary at Gasworks Plaza – Queensland’s fifth new Yo-Chi venue in four months. Much like its sibling venues (located in The City, Paddington, Mount Gravatt and Bulimba), Yo-Chi Gasworks Plaza will feature a bank of self-serve yoghurt machines and a buffet-style toppings bar. Long-time fans can expect the same great range of flavours and ingredients – everything needed to craft your dream dessert.
