Cold coffee

Cool down with Brisbane’s best cold coffee hits

The morning coffee run is a sacred ritual for many of us, but what’s a Brisbane dweller to do when the forehead is gathering sweat beads before we’ve even stepped out of the house? We’ve scoured the fridges of our favourite caffeine haunts to track down Brisbane’s best cold coffees.

West End darling Blackstar Coffee started life selling bottles of cold-press from an esky at the Davies Park Markets, so it’s no wonder its cool brews have since earned a reputation as some of Brisbane’s best. Roasted, cold-brewed and hand-bottled at the Blackstar roastery, the Full Creamy, Soy Deluxe and Total Black brews boast hints of vanilla and Mexican agave, and are fairtrade, organic and preservative free.

Another name getting dehydrated tongues wagging is Brisbane brew, Benchmark Coldpress. Green beans are used to craft an exclusive cold-press blend, which is then bottled and sold separately or as a thirst-busting six pack. Grab your fix from Pourboy Espresso in Brisbane City, The Golden Pig Food & Wine School in Newstead, Park Bench Espresso Bar in Bulimba or Ltd Espresso + Brew Bar in Fortitude Valley. The boys at Ltd have also been tweaking their chilled offerings, currently offering a perky little black diamond concoction of San Pellegrino sparkling mineral water with premium cold-press coffee.

A few doors down, Reverends Fine Coffee is brewing its house blend espresso and sweetening the mix with naturally processed Colombian rapadura syrup, then teaming it with full-cream milk or Bonsoy to result in some delicious iced coffee blends.

If you find yourself in South Brisbane with a cold coffee craving, head along to Two Trees on Merivale Street for a bottle of the good stuff. Made in-house without any sweeteners, single-origin Kimmel beans sourced from Papua New Guinea are teamed with Maleny Dairies milk or soy.

A stone’s throw away on Glenelg Street, The Roastery Cafe has also crafted a quirky range of Artisan Cold Brews. Ethiopian beans form the base of four different cold-drip extraction blends: the white and sweet Marilyn Monroe, soy and sweet Dalai Lama, smooth, sweet and black Ray Charles, and black with no sugar Malcolm X. You can also get your Artisan fix at Mr. Rush Espresso Bar in Teneriffe, Beans on the Green in Bardon, Stomp Espresso in Holland Park or Fillo & Co in West End.

Milton favourite Bunker is whipping up iced filter brews including the naturally processed Ethiopian blend roasted by Proud Mary, while also encouraging a bottle return policy to help reduce wastage.

Sitting inside Co Design at Portside Wharf, Deer Sir has also released its own blend of cold-press coffee. Brewed for more than 12 hours and sweetened with dark agave nectar, the concoction is bottled on-premises with black, soy, skim and full-cream milk options available.
