Opulent opals and perfect pearls – discover jewellery designer Margot McKinney’s World of Wonder at Museum of Brisbane

With a lifetime dedicated to luxury, Australian creative icon Margot McKinney is one of the world’s most renowned jewellery designers. Timeless, one-of-a-kind and absolutely breathtaking, Margot’s unique designs are a celebration of the world’s rarest gems. Soon you’ll be able to see some of these incredibles pieces displayed in one place thanks to Museum of Brisbane’s newest exhibition, World of Wonder: Margot McKinney.

Coming to Museum of Brisbane from June 18, World of Wonder: Margot McKinney is set to be the jewel in the museum’s crown of 2022 exhibitions. With four generations of jewellery makers in her family, it was predestined for Margot McKinney to become a luxury jeweller – and it was she who took the family’s brand and elevated it to new heights. She has worked with leading pearl farmers, opal experts and gem-cutters across the world to secure the rare and precious materials that have been the centrepiece of her designs – many of which have caught the eyes of international big-name stores and famous faces. With a beloved jewellery brand and a flagship store in Brisbane under her belt, her career has been illustrious, to say the least.

Museum of Brisbane’s exhibition will be a mesmerising celebration of the brand that is Margot McKinney, as well as the inspirations behind Margot’s designs – from Queensland’s coral reefs to the rich colours found on safari in Tanzania. You’ll be able to set your eyes upon a treasure chest of jewels, from magnificent opals and eye-catching pearls to rare, exotic gems like blue tanzanite, lilac amethyst and pink tourmalines. Oh, how we wish we could add some of these gems to our jewellery box.
