Do sustainability in style at Revive

No longer relegated to nannas, thrifting and op shopping have gained a reputation as the cool – and sustainable – way to get threads. Take a leaf out of Macklemore’s book and pop some tags at the Revive second-hand fashion festival on Friday August 19, where Brisbane City Council has done the hard work for you.

Revive is a second-hand fashion festival that brings together the best of Brisbane’s pre-loved and revived clothing stores, with expertly curated selections from the likes of Endeavour Foundation, Lifeline, Save the Children and The Salvos. The awesome Faye De Lanty will be on hand at the Salvos Street Boutique, bringing her resident eco-stylist skills and providing free styling tips for shoppers to take advantage of. Jane Milburn of Textile Beat fame is at the helm of the Revive Fashion Parade, lending her expert knowledge and commentary to the runway. Add a mix of Brisbane’s best independent retailers and you’ve got a recipe for one stylin’ affair.

Everybody knows you can’t shop hungry, so Brisbane City Council has teamed up with ten of the city’s favourite food trucks to keep the masses satiated in style. There will also be stacks of live entertainment to enjoy, so it’s fun for the whole gang. In addition to the festival, Brisbane City Council is holding a bunch of rad workshops to spread the pre-loved love across the week. Those keen on dipping their toes into the handy world of clothing alteration can get amongst a variety of activities like sewing circles, tailoring, hemming and textiles workshops on August 19, 21, 24 and 25. These events have been tailor-made to help fashionistas learn to fix their pre-existing treasures instead of ditching them. The Revive initiative is run to coincide with and support National Op Shop Week from August 21–27 and brought to you by the folks at Brisbane City Council to continue the city’s rep as a green, clean and sustainable haven.
