TWE Platform 2014

Jan Manton Art and Metro Arts pair up for Platform 2014

The sculptural works of four established Australian artists will come together in an annual pairing between Jan Manton Art and Metro Arts.

An ongoing collaboration, Platform showcases the works of early to mid-career artists, with this year’s exhibition comprising pieces by Brisbane artists Stephen Hart and Merete Megarrity, Melbourne artist Michael Doolan and Sydney artist Gabrielle Courtenay. Figurative sculptor Stephen Hart will present a large sculptural work with integrated photo media in this year’s showcase – his work often drawing focus to human condition and our relationship with the urban and built environment. Other local talent Merete Megarrity uses wood, wire, plaster, oil paint, fired clay, felt, rubber and organic found objects in her practice, crafting a series of sculptures entitled Bush March for her Platform 2014 contribution.

Melbourne-based Michael Doolan weaves core motifs through explorations of form, detail and tone, using images and characters across various interpretations fairytales to construct five intricate ceramic and enamel sculptures, along with a wall installation. Final sculptor Gabrielle Courtenay will exhibit circular paintings created from acrylic and vinyl on canvas, as well as pumicestone-carved sculptures. The exhibition will open this Thursday August 14 and continues through to Saturday August 30.
