New Dawn

August marks a New Dawn at Boxcopy gallery

Big changes are coming to Boxcopy, with the moving of its gallery space and the opening of Christopher Howlett’s New Dawn exhibition on Friday August 23.

In its new gallery space in Petrie Terrace, Boxcopy will celebrate Christopher Howlett’s unique exhibition New Dawn, which will show from Saturday August 24 until Saturday September 14. The exhibition will investigate the nature of reality in objects that exist in day-to-day life. Exploring notions of the body, speed, excess and morality, Christopher evaluates the translation of these concepts from technological and virtual gaming spaces into the real-life space of the audience. The exploration of what this means in a political, social and economic sense sees the artist question the way we see our bodies and subjectivities in response to technological developments.

New Dawn will then move to Metro Arts in Edward Street as part of Brisbane Festival from Wednesday September 11. Christopher’s work sees familiar pop culture characters intertwined between virtual spaces and real-time scenarios. The artist invites viewers to reflect on how we function as a society to new spaces of interactions and how these expanded sites of inhabitation might also present trouble in a media-saturated culture.
