Get close to local creative legends with Museum of Brisbane’s two new artists in residence

Brisbane is brimming with creative minds and masterful musicians, so it’s only appropriate that Museum of Brisbane (MoB) welcome some to be a part of its esteemed artist in residence program. This season, writer and artist Pat Hoffie and Camerata, Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, make temporary homes at MoB and they’re sure to deliver an entertaining, entrancing and enchanting experience for all.

In a win for Brisbane’s creative output, two new MoB artists in residence will be tasked with uncovering entertaining and fascinating tales about Brisbane’s rich history by extracting from more than 100 works from MoB’s collection. Sticking around until December will be writer, artist and Brisbane local Pat Hoffie, who will respond to the museum’s major exhibition, Making Place: 100 Views of Brisbane, through the written word. Pat is a Brisbane-based visual artist, who first moved to Queensland at the age of three after her family emigrated from Edinburgh. Drawing on the imagery in MoB’s exhibition, Pat will open a treasure chest’s worth of the lesser-known aspects of this city’s life and will share these findings with us lucky folk that visit the museum.

Also responding to the Museum’s major exhibition will be Camerata, Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, which spent most of September sharing its time between MoB’s Studio and Making Place: 100 Views of Brisbane, putting artistic process and collaboration on full display. Camerata and emerging composer-in-residence Alexander Voltz will collaborate to create new music that explores the ever-evolving question, ‘what makes place?’. They will also attempt to produce a piece of music that sounds like Brisbane from the point of view of people connected with our city, with the finished composition to be performed in an intimate live experience. Taking over MoB on Friday November 4, Camerata: Making Place Live in Concert will feature arresting artworks as the backdrop for a night of musical magic followed by an in-conversation with MoB’s head of curatorial and collections Christine Clark, composer Alexander Voltz and Camerata artistic director Brendan Joyce. If you’re keen to treat your ears to some bewitching music, head to the Museum of Brisbane website to grab your tickets.
