See our city through a new lens in Museum of Brisbane’s new exhibition Making Place: 100 Views of Brisbane

When it comes to art, culture and architecture, Brisbane has a storied history and the city’s future is set to be equally as exciting. With the Olympics on the horizon, Brisbane’s urban development scene is set to skyrocket. So now’s a better time than ever to reflect on our city’s most iconic landmarks and ask the question, can memories make a place? Helping to answer this query is Museum of Brisbane’s newest exhibition, Making Place: 100 Views of Brisbane, which presents more than 100 historical and contemporary depictions of the Brisbane region.

Opening on Saturday March 26, Making Place: 100 Views of Brisbane will present a bounty of artist perspectives on the changing nature of our city. Featuring artwork depicting views from as early as the 1820s, Museum of Brisbane’s new exhibition presents more than 100 historical and contemporary depictions of the Brisbane region from the MoB collections. You’ll be able to see works from the likes of Judy Watson, Richard Randall, Noel McKenna, Sam Fulbrook, Charles Lancaster, Robert Brownhall, Margaret Olley, Stephen Nothling, Margaret Cilento, Mia Boe and many more.

Visitors can treat their ears to a newly commissioned sound artwork by Artist in Residence Lawrence English, which captures not only the city’s many soundscapes but also those of the natural world that surrounds our city. Cap off the visit with Jenna Lee’s installation, Growing Place, which illustrates her reflection on the meaning of place, and more specifically, colonisation and development’s impact on environment and language.

Making Place100 views of Brisbane opens on Saturday March 26. Better yet, entry is free! For more information, head to the Museum of Brisbane website
