Two fun and free productions will take over Brisbane City Hall these school holidays

Ah, school holidays. While we love some quality time spent with the little ones, sometimes it can be difficult to find enough activities to keep the kiddies entertained that are also easy on the bank account. This is where the Lord Mayor’s Children’s Program comes in. With two super-fun and free productions taking over Brisbane City Hall in December and January, there is so much affordable entertainment to be experienced. Keep reading for all of the details …

The Lord Mayor’s Children’s Program will kick off with an opera extravaganza on Tuesday December 12. A captivating collaboration between Opera Queensland and Shake and Stir Theatre Co., FIZZ! will introduce the magic of opera to a younger demographic of fans. Based on the classic comedy opera The Elixir of Love by Donizetti, this reimagined performance follows a teenage love triangle that is filled with twists, turns, magical melodies and enchanting young performers. This weird, whacky and wonderful production will include audio descriptions, an Auslan interpreter and a tactile tour, allowing visually impaired visitors to touch the props and costumes while the cast and crew describe the visual elements of the production.

Then in January, prepare your vocal chords for the musical movie production I Like to Movie Movie, premiering on Tuesday January 16. This dance-inducing display will feature iconic songs from musical classics such as The Lion King, Shrek, Matilda, Aladdin, Frozen, Hairspray, Trolls and The Sound of Music, which are sure to have the whole family on their feet. I Like to Movie Movie will also be Auslan interpreted, ensuring everyone can join in on the musical fun. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says the Lord Mayor’s Children’s Program is a great way to support local artists and offer affordable and fun activities for families to enjoy. More musical goodness is scheduled for 2024, so be sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled for more announcements.

Bookings to these two free shows are required, so head to the Brisbane City Council website to register your attendance.
