Art meets luxury at Spring Hill’s new boutique hotel The Johnson

Do you need a holiday but don’t have time for travel? It’s time for a staycation in your own city. A new beacon of style has been erected in Brisbane’s inner suburbs. Opening on Friday September 16 is The Johnson, a swanky new destination from the Art Series Hotel Group, which has drawn inspiration (for more than just its name) from master colourist and artist Michael Johnson.

Offering a unique experience for travellers and art enthusiasts, Australia’s Art Series Hotel Group is renowned for constructing one-of-a-kind hotels that use art as a major source of inspiration and concept direction. Following the opening of locations in Melbourne (The Blackman, The Cullen, The Larwill and The Olsen), Bendigo (The Schaller) and Adelaide (The Watson), Brisbane will soon boast its own Art Series Hotel – Spring Hill’s The Johnson, which opens to the public on Friday September 16. This establishment – based within the heritage-listed, Karl Langer-designed Main Roads Building on Boundary Street – boasts a modern, industrial aesthetic, interspersed with vibrant artwork from the hotel’s namesake, Michael Johnson.

The hotel component of The Johnson features 87 self-contained suites, two luxuriously elegant penthouses and a range of top-of-the-line amenities. Guests are free to take advantage of a 50-metre pool with attached sundeck, a gymnasium as well as conference facilities, not to mention the multi-functional public spaces that are adorned with Michael Johnson’s original paintings and giclee prints. These pieces are infused with Michael’s iconic colourful palette, heavily laden surfaces and horizontal bars, which allude to nature and the world around us. In addition to The Johnson’s accommodation facilities, The Johnson Apartments offers inner-city living with a touch of luxury. 180 units, ten penthouses and three Sky Penthouses will be available for tenancies, boasting Miele appliances, stone benchtops and timber floors. The Sky Penthouse dwellings offers unimpeded views of Brisbane’s skyline and also boasts private car parking and lift access. Finally, The Johnson has recently opened the doors to its own lavish eatery Tumbling Stone and an attached coffee nook, Stepping Stone.
