Get your caffeine and dog-watching fix at Tarragindi’s Black Lab Coffee

This hip corner cafe is serving great coffee to Tarragindi locals, while also offering a spot to relax alongside your furry friend.

With a crisp design and an open, airy layout, Black Lab Coffee is set to establish itself as a popular coffee spot on the south side. Owner Luke is one half of Noosaville fruit and vegetable dispensary Maluka Produce, and decided to open his own coffee spot after moving to Tarragindi in late 2015. Appalled at the lack of good coffee spots in the area and after noticing an empty corner location on Kuring Gai Avenue, Luke jumped at the chance to bring good coffee to the suburb. The buildings interior and exterior has been overhauled with a simple timber and raw brick aesthetic, while a roller window next to the coffee machine opens to the street front, letting passers by know when it’s coffee time.

Luke has taken inspiration for the design and the name from his own black Labrador, Audrey, who often visits the store and welcomes customers with a friendly nudge and sniff. Black Lab Coffee is dog friendly, with water bowls and dog parking hooks installed on the cafes exterior. Black Lab Coffee serves Di Bella coffee and a selection of cold drinks as well as choice treats from Gerbino’s. In the future Luke will look to build upon the ample space and possibly include more food options, but is currently focusing on the takeaway coffee aspect and fostering a local appreciation for finer blends.
