The Golden Pig Food & Wine School

Outside the popular cooking-class schedule, The Golden Pig Food & Wine School caters to local folk keen for some healthy, inventive lunchtime choices. The Golden Pig’s cafe is open for breakfast and lunch during the week, serving housemade meals, coffee and cakes. Come Thursday and Friday evenings, locals take up the chance to relax amongst the creative space with a craft beer or glass of wine, as jazz croons softly overhead. Patrons can sink back into one of the lounges, find a place at the large tables past the bustling kitchen or admire the greenery from the back deck. A selection of bar eats is also present at the after-work bar, featuring simple, delectable dishes.

Newstead cooking school Golden Pig has announced it will be closing its doors for renovations from May 24 to June 30 2018 to transform the space into a new pan-Asian restaurant and bar. Owner and chef Katrina Ryan (ex-Rockpool, Sydney head chef) has had the concept in the works for a long time and is working with her partner, building designer Mark Ryan, on the new semi-industrial restaurant fit-out. Katrina’s new menu for Golden Pig will include a selection of small, medium and large share dishes, including yellow curry of pork belly with fresh tomato, coconut and lime, and betel leaf with rare pepper beef, ruby grapefruit and sticky tamarind sauce. Golden Pig’s chef Sarah Hockings will be heading up the kitchen. The restaurant and bar will be open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday from early July, and the cooking school will continue to operate on Saturday mornings, Sundays and Mondays.
