Taj Mahal – Opening Soon
Indian cuisine in Brisbane doesn’t get much better than the kind served at Taj Mahal. The restaurant has been serving locals for close to 20 years, with its longstanding menu boasting recognisable favourites and out-of-the-box options. This New Farm destination boasts some high-profile members in its fan base. Comedian Arj Barker reportedly ate at Taj Mahal every night during one of his stints in Brisbane, in addition to numerous Bollywood star, professional athletes and Englebert Humperdinck!
UPDATE: Disaster struck New Farm’s dining scene just before Christmas 2019, when Taj Mahal was gutted by fire. The blaze, which also claimed neighbouring cafe Caneca Espresso & Bar, swept through the restaurant, destroying years worth of memorabilia collected over Taj Mahal’s 18 years of operation. Despite the unfathomable loss, Taj Mahal’s ownership has vowed to reopen, posting a message on its Facebook page in early January that the team is currently working to reopen a temporary location across the road at 720 Brunswick Street – the former site of the Alibi Room. The space is expected to open in the coming weeks – stay tuned for a closer look.
