Mr Wabi
If the smell of aromatic Asian-inspired fare or the sound of hip-hop struck your senses the last time you walked down Burnett Lane, there’s a good chance you just walked past Mr Wabi. The neon-lit and street-art-adorned bar opened to the public in October 2021, slotting into the site formerly home to Spanish tapas bar El Matador. Mr Wabi reshaped the space with a structural and cosmetic shake-up – repositioning the bar an creating a larger capacity by opening up floor space for more seating. In addition to boasting a punchy pink colour scheme, the venue itself is adorned in street art, with local artists applying portrait murals and calligraffiti across existing wall space inside and out. Mr Wabi’s menu offer a range of shareable street eats designed to cater for all hunger levels, with a culinary fusion of Asian cuisines resulting in the likes of stuffed bao buns, rice bowls, noodle dishes, burgers and tomahawk steaks. Cocktails are also a big piece of Mr Wabi’s drinks offering, with signature cocktails and riffs on old-school favourites adding plenty of theatre to the tipple experience.
