ION Cafe & Bar is one of the newer faces in the suburb, having officially opened to the public in July 2017. The Pearce family established ION in a charming cottage on Irvine Street – just across the road from the thriving Blackwood Street precinct – overhauling the kitchen and seating areas to create a fresh (and considerably larger) space for patrons to occupy. Looking to add something different for the Mitchelton community, ION Cafe & Bar has gone to great lengths to deliver new and interesting options from breakfast through to dinner. Morning dishes include the likes of avocado on house-made pumpkin bread, and corn fritters, while lunch morsels such as cheeseburgers and soft tacos are some certified lunchtime crowd pleasers. ION Cafe & Bar serves up delectable Bellissimo Coffee and is one of the only places in Australia where you can sip boutique, high-end TWG Tea, which is renowned for its heady aroma and unbeatable quality. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, dinner diners can relax on the back balcony while snacking on a tapas menu as they sip on boutique, single-vineyard wines, local craft beers and a curated selection of spirits. Patrons can also book in for high teas, while winemakers will be stopping by frequently for specialty dinners.
