Brisbane’s booming craft-beer scene scored a new entrant when Felons Brewing Co. turned on the taps at its riverside location at the Howard Smith Wharves precinct. Referencing the first set of Europeans to come across the Brisbane River in the 1800s (the titular four felons), the operation is run by a pioneering team of enthusiastic craft-beer lovers. Ash Cranston (formerly of Little Creatures, Furphy and White Rabbit Brewing) and head brewer Tom Champion (also of Little Creatures) are the brains behind the brewery, which looks to craft brews to match Brisbane’s balmy climate. The sizeable venue offers interior seating and plenty of spots outdoors overlooking the river, while an armada of vehicles have been repurposed into mobile pop-up beer dispensaries. Shared fare is central to the Felons dining experience, serving everything from wood-fired pizzas (served piping hot from two gargantuan Forni Visciano ovens) to fresh seafood cooked to perfection on the ten-metre long outdoor grill. Felons Brewing Co. will commence brewery tours and tasting events in the near future, while wholesaling operations are expected to start in January 2019.
