The Bakery Lane space previously belonging to uh oh italian wine store + bar morphed in late 2022, reopening as intimate wine bar Dark Red. Now owned and operated by hospitality veteran Hannah Wagner, this cosy wine bar and retail resource sees the intimate joint offer a broad range of Italian wines and Australian-grown Italian varieties. Dark Red’s shelves – currently laden with 60 different labels – will evolve and expand, with options ranging from crushable, great-value drops to high-end sips dispensed by Coravin. Hannah has also bolstered Dark Red’s offering with a range of drops crafted by female winemakers, sharing the stories of this crop of important viticulturists. Bottles can be plucked off the shelves to take way or consume on site, while a continuously rotating by-the-glass selection will showcase hand-picked options. In 2023, Dark Red expanded into a next-door space, installing a newfangled cocktail bar serving fruit-forward cocktails made using seasonal produce and small-batch spirits. This side is decidedly moodier than its sibling. That said, Hannah is eager to keep the vibe informal but personal across both spaces, engaging with customers to find a drink perfectly suited to their tastes.
