In October 2023, caffeine-obsessed Coorparoo locals welcomed a new coffee spot that is servicing their cravings every day of the year. Pint-sized piccolo pourer Straits can be found on Leicester Street, where owner Brendan McCrystal (formerly of Blackout in Paddington) is add some fun vibes to the quiet, leafy strip. The 37-sqm space (tucked in next to hairdresser Isabis Hair) has been kitted out with a new coffee counter (coated in vibrant orange-hued tiles), while seating is scattered across a low-set banquette, a breakfast bar, the footpath and a side patio. Straits has The Black Lab Coffee Co. on deck for its house blend, but Brendan is also serving rotating single origins from a heap of other roasters. A small menu of sweet and savoury pastries are available alongside the brew, too.
