Continental Cafe

If you’ve never had the pleasure of eating at Continental Cafe then officially cannot call yourself a Brisbane foodie – it’s the rule. One of Brisbane’s longest-running food institutions has been satisfying eaters since 1996 and has managed to maintain its reputation as a gourmand’s paradise for the entire time. Chef and owner Beau Downs took over the business in 2007 and was a personal fan of the style of comfort food Continental Cafe provided long before purchasing the restaurant. Under Beau’s tenure, the eatery has kept true to its traditional European roots, offering the Continental classics that have earned the restaurant a legion of regulars. The classic menu includes favourites such as Continental beef sausages with potato mash, pan-seared lamb’s fry and bacon, soy lime chicken breast and coconut risotto and spaghetti with prawns and chilli. The rest of the menu boasts a range of seasonal dishes and desserts, complemented by a stellar wine list featuring numerous European and Australian varieties. On Saturday and Sunday Continental Cafe opens for breakfast, serving salmon Benedict, vegetarian omelettes and more.
