B+C Lab Cafe

Kelvin Grove’s urban village is home a plethora of charming food and drink spots, but specialty coffee and cake cafe B+C Lab might be one of the precinct’s most unique residents. Owner and operator Sharon has been working in the hospitality industry since 2014, and while studying at QUT Kelvin Grove’s Creative Industries faculty she imagined opening a space in the area that offered something a bit different from the norm. B+C Lab Cafe specialises in two key areas – baked goods and coffee – served in a stylish minimalist setting boasting washed walls and tiles, concrete accents and a pared-back decor. B+C Lab Cafe serves up specialty coffee, Japanese matcha and tea and a large range of Japanese desserts that are made fresh every morning. Options like the matcha crepe cake, which boasts 30 layers with fresh matcha cream, are incredibly popular, while the pearl milk chiffon cake is also in high demand. Sharon orders her coffee beans from Melbourne roaster 5 Senses and the odd batch of local beans from Light Coffee in Woolloongabba. The coffee counter offers espresso-based pours and alternative brewing methods such as pour over and cold drip. Sharon sources matcha and hojicha tea products directly from Kyoto on a seasonal basis, meaning that matcha fanatics have an authentic source for the delightful green powder.
