Just when you thought Currumbin couldn’t get any better, along came Refinery Coffee. Housed in the former Nectar Espresso, the striking black and white facade and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee will lure you in from the main road. Once inside, you’re faced with a difficult choice, get something from the cabinet brimming with tasty treats including deliciously dense chocolate brownies or grab something from the succinct-yet-satisfying menu of toasted sandwiches, smashed avocado and frozen bowls. Caffeine addicts will be pleased to know the coffee is by Blackboard but if you’ve already reached your coffee quota for the day, there’s kombucha from the fridge. Beyond baked goods and excellent brews, Refinery Coffee also offers a co-working space dotted with comfy lounge settings for casual meetings and work tables for those who need to get stuff done. There’s free Wi-Fi and even a private meeting room upstairs, which can be booked in advance, just get in touch with owners Gabrielle Hows and Brendan Hill. The versatile space is also fully customisable and is available for private events. There is a liquor license in the works and plans to expand the kitchen so watch this space.
