Adversity inspires art exhibition by Paul Everest

Paul Everest, local lad and entrepreneur behind streetwear brand Unit, is set to launch his first solo exhibition at Currumbin’s Hinge Gallery. The collection is inspired by Paul’s own journey as a human and artist.

Touching on themes of birth, death, sex, politics and even quantum physics, the diverse exhibition contains striking and powerful images and sculptures that are intended to inspire thought and debate.

Admiring the lack of role and limits in contemporary art, Paul believes art should be rich in dialogue and tell stories or raise important questions.

One of the artist’s signature pieces, an intensely confronting surrealist painting called Last Goodbye, was spurred by his own near death experience and is a statement on how quickly things can change.

Paul plans to launch a new streetwear label on the night that is vastly different to his previous label Unit. From humble beginnings in his parent’s garage in Benowa, Paul grew Unit into one of the world’s most well known action sport brands.

The exhibition opens December 12 and will run until January 12 at Hinge Gallery in Currumbin.
