If you can believe it, the end of this week welcomes another edition of school holidays. If you’re a parent, this means that you have two weeks to fill with fun activities to keep the kids entertained. Thankfully, HOTA has your back this September with the return of mini-festival Kids Take Over from September 27 to October 1. Here are all of the whimsical activities in store …

Arriving at HOTA on Wednesday September 27, Kids Take Over will transform the Surfers Paradise precinct into a mecca of creativity and imagination with 12 events across five jam-packed days. Designed by kids for kids, the program features a huge selection of free and ticketed events including workshops, visual-arts experiences, immersive performances and more. The fun kicks off on September 27 with Brats Carnival, a high energy show brought to you by the finest team of circus artists and mischief makers of Brief Factory. Youngsters can get ready to tap their toes at the Proudfoot & Friends stage show spectacular from September 28–30, or embark on a journey of creativity and wonder with Fluffy, an immersive and enchanting experience combining 200-kg of recycled shredded paper with art, physical performance, and interactive storytelling from September 28–30.

After some boredom-busting activities? Award-winning author Brian Falkner guides young wordsmiths in writing stories in the Write Like An Author workshop from September 25–28, while budding artists can unleash their creative potential with renowned artist Brenton E McKenna in the Cartooning workshop from September 28–30. On September 25-28, children can refine their artistic skills across character creation, media and techniques, storyboards and multi-layered artwork in the Draw Like An Artist workshop, led by artist Lucia Masciullo. Now, it wouldn’t be a kid’s festival without some Lego, so make sure you take the kids to see famed builders Andrew and Damien from Clicking Bricks for the ultimate Lego Battle: What’s your story? on September 30. Across the Kids Take Over festival there are a range of free events including a picnic party on the lawns with live performances from entertainers like Bunny Racket, Salmon Head and Jerome Williams, a market day with stalls from mini entrepreneurs and a special movie night under the stars.
