Get set for 48 hours of unpredictable art at QT Gold Coast
QT Gold Coast will explode into a cultural playground this weekend as it stages Hotelling – a 48-hour long arts and performance showcase. Art lovers and fun seekers will be treated to a flirtatious, fly-on-the-wall experience as a series of unpredictable performances unfold across bars, in elevators, corridors, courtyards, hotel rooms and previously unnoticed nooks throughout the contemporary Surfers Paradise hotel.
Kicking off this Friday, Hotelling will see the city’s best dancers, theatre performers, media artists and musicians embedded into regular hotel life across the weekend through a series of shape-shifting artistic performances and playful displays. The intriguing event is being curated by one of Australia’s creative leaders, David Pledger, in collaboration with Bleached Arts – the talented team behind Bleach Festival. The impressive QT Gold Coast is the perfect space to conceptualise the Hotelling experience, which is said to blur the lines between traditional hospitality and art by allowing artists and audiences to free their inhibitions and let the curiosity collide. Let’s just say that you should probably look twice the concierge, the bar tender, the couple next door (if you’re a guest) or the good-looker by the pool because nothing will be as it seems (it will be a gazillion times more fabulous!)
Friday and Saturday nights from 8:00pm will see Down the Rabbit Hole staged, which will feature artist such as Craig Walsh, Lawrence English, Kate Harman and Nadia Sunde – so expect to lose yourself on an cultural roller coaster, with artist delights popping up everywhere from the tennis courts to the concierge and even the hotel rooms. The evenings will kick off with drinks in the exclusive penthouse, before you’re whisked off on a guided art adventure. Sizzling provocateur Moira Finucane will be performing her internationally renowned Queen of Hearts and Dark and Gothic cabaret shows exclusively on the Friday and Saturday evenings. The Afternoon Playground will continue the program on Saturday from 1:00 pm, which see the artistic whirlwind hit the pool area before you’re taken on a mystery bike tour (now we’re even more intrigued). Get set for an intimate cinema experience, yogi snacks, drinks and a whole lotta artsy fun. There’s really no telling who or what will be waiting for you around the corner (it’s all part of the experience, guys!), but we can tell you to be prepared for a good dash of playfulness, energy and sensuality. Tickets for Down the Rabbit Hole and The Afternoon Playground can be purchased here.
