Hypnotic soundscapes abound in Deeper Minimalism

Luke Jaaniste is an artist that experiments with sound for his installation and performance hybrids. Deeper Minimalism is his latest project being showcased at The Walls in Miami.

On Sunday May 3, Luke Jaaniste and his collaborators will be showcasing two lie-down and move-around performances that double as installation art pieces. The event, Deeper Minimalism, is divided into two parts which are performed in succession and not only encourage audience participation, but consider it a necessity. Alongside Jordin Steele, Marisa Georgiou and James Scott, Luke has created Portal and Hhaarrpp, the two halves of the Deeper Minimalism whole.

Portal utilises vintage Yamaha keyboards to create hypnotic harmonies, which are then added to by various performers to evoke meditative tones. Audiences can participate in the floor choir by lying down and harmonising with the music created by the instruments. Hhaarrpp is described as an electro-hypnotica band project, which uses trance-like improvisations to create ambient and up-tempo noise. Tickets to Deeper Minimalism are $10, with the event commencing at The Walls at 3:00 pm.
