HoModa lends a design eye to the humble stubby cooler

The silly season tends to be the time of year that our tired old stubby coolers get dragged out of the cupboard, ready and waiting to keep our beverages cool.

Kitsch or not, the classic stubby cooler is a barbecue staple, but they aren’t always the most attractive thing to wrap around your ice-cold liquid refreshment. With each piece usually gifted as a travel souvenir or scored as part of a promotion, our cooler collections tend to be eclectic, and although nostalgic, not very design driven. While taking refuge from 40-degree heat with a frosty brew in hand, local duo Lisa Thomson and Felicity Hilton suddenly had a light-bulb moment – to create an aesthetically pleasing drink cooler.

Focusing on revamping everyday products that lack good looks, Lisa and Felicity created HoModa, with their first product being the humble stubby cooler. Available in two sizes to fit both classic bottles and larger craft beer and cider bottles, the coolers come in a variety of patterns and colours and are hand stitched to ensure a quality finish. You can catch the HoModa lasses at a variety of local markets across Brisbane, or browse their wares at Absolutely Fabulous and Marcia’s on Montague.
