Costa Taco has opened a third taco-slinging outpost, transforming a forgotten space in Broadbeach

After sitting empty for nearly half a decade, the striking yellow building perched on the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and Armrick Avenue in Broadbeach has been given a new lease on life as the third – and largest – Costa Taco. The much-loved taqueria, featuring a fresh lick of white paint, opened its doors on the weekend, transforming the once-forgotten corner into the city’s newest taco-slinging, margarita-shaking hot spot.

In excellent news for taco lovers, brothers Nick and Matt Stanley have opened the doors to the brand-new Costa Taco, nestled in the corridor between Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. Since their debut at the Currumbin Community Markets in October 2020, the pair have built a loyal following with their take on authentic Mexican cuisine made using locally sourced ingredients. From pop-ups at Dust Temple and Alfred’s Apartment to established ‘fast casual’ taquerias in Palm Beach and Byron Bay, Costa Taco has embarked upon its most ambitious project to date, boasting twice the capacity of its predecessors.

“Since we opened in Byron, we’ve put a huge amount of effort into getting the business running really well, developing our team and fine-tuning the menu … this location is a natural progression of how we want to grow the brand,” Matt says, looking around the new digs.

“We’ve been looking for our third spot for quite a while now. And when we saw this [space], we were like, let’s do it,” Matt said. “It’s got that really nice Spanish Hacienda vibe to it, which was a bit odd for the area. It was such a unique spot with so much character.”

Although there’s seating for roughly 90 inside and out, the latest addition has already struck a chord with locals, becoming an overnight success. The venue is walk-in only with QR codes to order from the table, so you needn’t have to leave your perch for refreshments.

In terms of the menu, it will feature the same authentic Mexican street food we’ve come to know and love from the crew. Favourites like sinaloa-chicken tacos pair perfectly with rich and delicous beef birria, alongside light and crisp Baja-style fish. Diners can also munch on ceviche tostadas, street corn and the beloved quesabirria tacos, all best washed down with a freshly made margarita featuring top-tier Mexican tequila.

“Our Broadbeach restaurant is a pivotal moment for Costa Taco,” says Nick. “We’re creating a space where the energy of Mexico meets Australian beach culture. It’s more than just great food; it’s about creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere where people can gather and share stories.” And, if opening weekend is anything to go by, gather they will.
