Morena Espresso transforms into Augusta, a Brazilian brunch spot and bar

On the corner of Gold Coast Highway and Cronulla Avenue sits a lively locale frequented by Mermaid Beach locals and the coast’s Brazilian community. Formerly known as Morena Espresso, this fresh-faced venue has just opened its doors as Augusta following a makeover to its space and food offering. A daytime-to-evening destination, Augusta promises mouth-watering Brazilian brunch dishes, plenty of live entertainment and whistle-wetting drinks. Here’s a taste of what’s on offer …

Augusta had its grand opening on Saturday June 10, and it’s safe to say it was a success, with plenty of people pouring in over the weekend. The venue changed hands last year, and has been closed since February for its transformation into Augusta. The venue has changed considerably, with several new murals adorning the indoor and outdoor walls, with the Brazilian community helping out with the new fit-out. Perhaps the biggest addition is the kitchen, where Augusta will be pumping out delicious and authentic Brazilian-inspired fare.

The Brazilian breakfast menu is set to impress, with the mortadella sandwich (150-g of premium mortadella, cheese and butter in a traditional Brazilian bread) a must-try. You can also dig into loaded tapioca with variations like mushroom and halloumi, condensed milk and coconut and dulce de leche and banana. The brunch menu features the likes of feta-and-spinach coxinha, vegan kibe (pumpkin with creamy tofu), loaded fries with cheddar and bacon, and a build-your-own hotdog. The evening menu is filled with boards piled high with meat – think picanha acebolada, marinated chicken and calabresa acebolada. Coffee is available to sip on, and after 11:00 am, tipples will be pouring. There’s Black Hops on tap, alongside a range of tinnies including some Brazilian favourites like Antarctica Original Brazilian Beer and Brahma beer, and a small clutch of cocktails. Live music will fill the venue during the evenings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Augusta is open Thursday through Sunday from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. Head over to our Stumble Guide for further information.
