Be Prepared for Otim Ajalia’s debut collection

An emerging Cairns designer has drawn on his Ugandan and Queensland heritage to craft a snappy collection of menswear.

Up-and-coming Cairns designer Peterson Opio wears his heart on his sleeve, literally, with pieces from his debut menswear collection taking on the names of his Ugandan uncles, cousins and father. The fresh range of Otim Ajalia button-ups, polos and singlets was launched at the inaugural Africa Fashion Week in Melbourne last month, which attracted both established and emerging fashion designers from around the country and helped raise awareness for non-profit organisation Otino International.

Inspired by the male rolemodels in his life, Peterson’s creations – which carry names like Otim, Kibi, Opio and Ochen – see vibrant African-inspired prints combined with contemporary North Queensland stylings. Snap up the Be Prepared collection via Otim Ajalia’s Facebook page or website.
