Almond Butter

The Grocer: Almond Butter

Perhaps the most well utilised of all nuts, almonds have found a home in dishes, both sweet and savoury, throughout history. Now the humble snack is also finding favour as an alternative to peanut butter.

A blended spread of almonds, honey and salt, the whipped delicacy is a healthy alternative to supermarket-bought condiments. High in fibre, calcium, potassium and iron, but low in saturated fat, the spread is favoured by the health conscious.

The almond spread can be used to smear straight over toasted bread, or as an ingredient to add a creamy flavour and texture to many desserts. For morning tea, you can also spread the delicious butter over sliced pieces of apple.

Also known as almond spread, almond butter can be bought in most supermarkets and health food stores. But it is just as simple to make, with a bounty of recipes online.
