Gerard’s Bistro is temporarily closing – here is everything you need to know

Last week, lauded James Street restaurant Gerard’s Bistro announced that it would be closing its doors after 11 successful years of trade after its last dinner service on Saturday July 1, 2023. Don’t pull our the tissues just yet! The close is just temporary and there will be plenty of Gerard’s goodness to enjoy in the meantime. Here is everything you need to know …

When Gerard’s Bistro opened in July 2012, it took Brisbane, and Australia, by storm. The restaurant’s modern take on the flavours of the Maghreb and Middle East, inspired by the heritage of owners Elie and Johnny Moubarak, garnered numerous accolades, solidifying Gerard’s as one of Brisbane’s best. Now, after 11 delicious years, Gerard’s Bistro is temporarily closing its doors for two months to undergo a comprehensive makeover. While the details of the new space are being kept under wraps, we’re told it will be a complete facelift – the renovation will see the current restaurant completely gutted to make way for an entirely reimagined dining space.

You don’t need to go without your Gerard’s fix during its two-month hiatus. While you wait for the great renovation reveal, neighbouring Gerard’s Bar will reinvigorate its space to accommodate a full menu and, as of Monday July 10, will be opening seven days a week. Gerard’s Bistro’s beloved staff and kitchen team will be heading over to the bar, serving up an elevated and expanded food offering (including some bistro favourites) that will bridge the gap during the renovation period. Gerard’s Bar will also be hosting weekly special events – Monday nights will be Lebanese Pizza Parties, Wednesdays will see steak frites lead the menu, and *drumroll please* … Gerard’s is bringing back its long-missed Middle Eastern brunch offering from Friday to Sunday!

Gerard’s Bistro is set to reopen in September. Keep an eye on the Gerard’s Instagram feed for progress updates and we’ll be sure to give you an inside look once all is revealed.
