William Bustard on display at the Museum of Brisbane

One of the pioneers of the Queensland art scene, William Bustard, will be profiled with a retrospective exhibition from June 19 to January 31, 2016.

With work exhibited across Queensland and globally, William Bustard was one of the states most successful artists before he passed away in 1973. After arriving in Brisbane from the United Kingdom in 1921, Bustard’s style changed to reflect the Queensland light and sun-kissed vistas of his new home. The Brisbane River, the city’s iconic Jacaranda trees and Brisbane’s surrounding pastoral landscapes feature prominently in Bustard’s work, which will be exhibited at the Museum of Brisbane for the remainder of 2015.

William Bustard: Painting with light will feature 60 paintings, 13 original stained-glass window designs and 16 objects that provide details of Bustard’s life in Queensland. Many pieces that were thought lost or destroyed have been collected and will be shown, making Painting with light a significant exhibition for anyone who considers themselves an art buff or is keen to see the history of Brisbane through the eyes of an acclaimed artist.
