Brisbane’s Story Bridge celebrates its 75th birthday

Brisbane’s Story Bridge celebrates its 75th birthday

A 75th birthday party may typically take on a slower pace, but when the Story Bridge clocks up the big 7-5, it’s going to be a party to remember.

The Story Bridge will literally be stopping traffic this weekend as the city celebrates the local icon’s birthday. The heritage-listed landmark will be closed to traffic as Brisbane City Council invites thousands of locals and well-wishers along to join the free community event, Story Bridge 75, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm this Sunday July 5.

Eat Street Markets will be relocating to the Story Bridge for the day, with around 80 food vendors, 20 food trucks, four bars and four performance stages entertaining partygoers. Locals will relish the rare opportunity to amble along the bridge – which measures a massive 1 km long and six lanes wide – and admire historical displays and Team Brisbane and Cycling Brisbane activations. Entry is free, but you must have pre-registered for a ticket and entry will be allowed via a number of timed sessions throughout the day. The bridge will remain closed to traffic until 7:00 pm on Sunday evening. Find information on traffic restrictions and travel options online.
